I've always appreciated Baen's take on e-books. Their free library is an excellent idea, providing a broad variety of their books for readers to download for free, many of which are the first in a series or written by one of Baen's established authors. As of this week, HarperCollins has abandoned the Agency pricing model. Several e-book retailers have already taken advantage of this, among them Amazon and BooksOnBoard. It's really minor news at this point, but this week Amazon was able to close their deal with Dorchester. If you'll recall, back in March the owner of the publisher filed a notice of foreclosure, and in June Amazon bid on the publishing contracts. We already know Tor/Forge is planning to start releasing its e-books DRM-free starting in July, but they've also announced that in addition to the normal retail outlets, they will make available their own DRM-Free E-book store, which includes all Starscape, Tor Teen, and Orb titles.
